Gallimh Theas Comhaltas (representing South Galway) is based in Gort town. It was founded in 2014 to represent, encourage and nurture Irish music, language and song in this region. Being in the shadow of Coole Park and Thoor Ballylee, this area of Galway is steeped in music and poetry tradition.

Celebrating the music of Joe Cooley and Kieran Collins, the Cooley Collins Festival is held in Gort on the bank holiday weekend of October each year.

Gaillimh Theas actively participates and encourages Irish Music and meets on a fortnightly basis to host tune swaps to members of all ages.

The musicians give freely of their time and music in the locality, performing at Mass, festivals and a variety of fund raising events.
